My name is Macaria Chan Pech I was born in Kuncheil, Quintana Roo (Big Tree) 72 years ago.
I have been living in Punta Laguna, Yucatán for 60 years since my husband moved here for work.
When I was a little girl my older sister taught me how to do embroidery in our home town.
I always liked wearing dresses with flower and colors that our mother will do to us.

I was married when I was 20 years old and I had 5 siblings, 3 girls and 2 boys.

Rising my family was hard because the Chicle harvesting went down and despair my husband didn't have work. So I started working more in my embroidery work that later I taught to my daughters. And every month we will be going to sell our work to Valladolid.
Sometimes we will sell sometimes we wouldn't...

When Punta Laguna became officiously a natural reserve my husband and my sons started working as nature guide.

Our livelyhood was always based in the chickens that I had and the eggs as well as the corn we grew.

Now we live more relaxed after having our regular work incomes as a women in our village through the Laguna Collective.
